QUESTION # 104: NO TIME FOR USELESSNESS

Dear Useless Men,

Anyone know where the United States President might be? He has had an entire city destroyed, and the people are dying, hungry, and sick. There is NO aid going to these people even though millions of dollars stream in everyday from Americans to help.

Where oh where has my government gone?

Pissed off!!!!!

Dear P.O.,

Being up here in Canada, I can not say for certain where your President is. I can assure you of one thing. He’s not up here. I did see him on TV flying in a plane over the affected areas, and preaching about getting help to the people in need.

Our useless hearts go out to those affected by the recent hurricane.

It seems the engineers of the city did a cost vs risk analysis when building the protective measures for the outskirts of New Orleans. That report now seems to have been useless.

Our advice to you, and our many loyal readers, is to help in any way you can. If you can send money, do so. If you can fly over the air space and drop supplies, go for it. If you can find a home for a wayward croc, by all means pitch in.

Up here, I’ve offered the Rogers Centre in Toronto as a home away from home for the wayward Saints NFL team. I haven’t heard back from anyone, but I understand there are still communication difficulties.

These efforts seem to run better by the people on the street, than the people cutting through the red tape.

When we get through this disaster, and you’ve stepped up to help these people, many of them strangers to us, don’t go back to the daily grind of ignorance. Continue in your helpful ways to your city, or neighbourhood. Help the homeless, or clean a park. Do your part every day for a better world.

This is not the time to be Useless.

Sincerely,
One Useless Man

Say you're an Army soldier on a mission in an Iraqi desert town. Things are pretty quiet, so you decide to draft a blog entry and report just that.
Hey, you have a great blog here! I'm definitely going to bookmark you!

I have a site/blog. It pretty much covers related stuff.

  • Well, we know who the true Useless Man here, and it isn't One Useless Man, Another Useless Man, Just Plain Useless, or More Useless than My Cat. Your clever disguise appearing to be Useless whilst helping the downtrodden is discovered. Please don't flee. Oh, you can have the Saints. Just send DC a good hockey team. Thanks.

  • I have pitched in. I have offered my home to a wayward drunken man from Nawlins who is now displaced that I met through blogging. I've offered to share all my beer with him. Now it's that not compassion I don't know what is.

  • he did finally admit that emergency help has been considerably too slow in deliverance, after being confronted....before there was the excuse that the people didn't go to the right place in time. ummm, we're talking about the poor people that didn't have cars or $$ or they would have gotten the hell out of there!!! and it's their fault they didn't get to the right place in time? FFS!

  • He admitted it was unacceptable but then recanted a few hours later. That Fema guy has got to go. five hundred million a day isn't chump change. I wonder how much he's getting paid. The poor people were told basically "Leave" and that was emergency management for you. No buses no nothing.
    Hey Canadians! Anyone in Ottawa?

  • Just so I can be useless too I want to add that a city with an evacuation plan that does not USE the school and city buses, the taxi services and does not plan to evacuate nursing homes and hospitals is a pretty useless plan.

While I agree that GW is nothing but a glorified used car sales man and mostly useless, some of the blame has to go to the planners.
